Triple Sec (TB)
Books could be written about friends joining forces to purchase a racehorse. In 1982, four Texans spent $28,000 on a Florida-bred son of Tri Jet out of a Duck Dance mare Lovely Pond. Carroll Glaser from Rockdale, Texas remembers that day well and many other memorable moments watching the Triple Sec show his grit and determination on the racetrack.
Glaser, who has practiced law in Rockdale, Texas for 57 years, teamed with Stanley Beard, Wayne Meissner and Linwood Mahaffey 42 years ago. They each liked what they saw in the handsome bay as did trainer Tommie Morgan, who is also a member of the 2023 Texas Racing Hall of Fame. Morgan broke Triple Sec, who was a February foal, and ready for his debut at Delta Downs on February 13, 1983. He ran fifth that day but broke his maiden one month later. His connections were on hand when Triple Sec was shipped to Sunland Park for the Riley Allison Futurity which he won in impressive fashion.
Glaser never missed a race, many times with his wife of 59 years, Sandy and friends, sometimes filling rows in the grandstands. He admits that Triple Sec's third-place finish in the Grade 1 Sapling Stakes at Monmouth Park, was his biggest disappointment, but gave his runner high marks for his fortitude and heart. In the Grade 1, Arlington-Washington Futurity, Triple Sec was favored, but lost a shoe in the muddy going and lost all chances.
Triple Sec completed his career in the barn of prominent trainer Ron McAnnally from 1985-1988. He made his last start on January 18, 1988, at Santa Anita, completing his career with a record of 46-9-11-8 and earnings of $526,652.
